EVENT REGULATIONS: "HUMAN VS HORSE / CZŁOWIEK KONTRA KOŃ"

I. ORGANIZER AND RESPONSIBLE ENTITIES

  1. The organizer of the "Human vs Horse" competition (hereinafter referred to as the "Event") is the Pomeranian Horse Endurance Equestrian Club (Klub Jeździecki Pomeranian Horse Endurance).

  2. The co-organizer of the Event is the Kashubian Coachmen and Horse Breeders Association (Zrzeszenie Kaszubskich Kuczerów i Hodowców Koni).

  3. Contact details of the Organizer: arabians@oberholle.com, www.humanvshorse.pl

II. PURPOSE OF THE EVENT

  • Popularization of running and equestrianism as forms of physical activity.

  • Promotion of the Kashubia region as an attractive destination for sports and recreation.

  • Testing human physical endurance in comparison to a horse on a demanding cross-country route.

III. DATE AND VENUE

  1. The Event will take place on October 3, 2026.

  2. The start, finish line, and the Event Office (Biuro Zawodów) will be located on the grounds of the Kolano Horse Stud (Kolano 72a, 83-315 Szymbark).

IV. ROUTE AND TRAFFIC SAFETY

  1. The Event is held on two alternative cross-country routes to be chosen by the Participant:

    • Short Route: approx. 13 km.

    • Long Route: approx. 27 km.

  2. Route Characteristics: High-difficulty mountain trail running, passing through hills, forest roads, field paths, meadows, and natural obstacles (including streams and uneven terrain).

  3. Culmination Point of the Long Route: Wieżyca (328.7 m above sea level) is located outside the designated Event route. Entering this area is strictly forbidden under penalty of immediate disqualification.

  4. The route runs adjacent to the Szczyt Wieżyca Nature Reserve in the Kashubian Landscape Park.

  5. Due to the specific nature of the event (a shared route for runners and horses), an absolute safety priority is established:

    • Riders and runners shall move along designated corridors. In narrow sections, it is absolutely forbidden for horses to overtake runners in a way that endangers their health.

    • The rider is obliged to loudly signal their intention to overtake a runner (e.g., with the command "Prawa wolna!" / "Right side clear!"). The runner is obliged to yield the right-of-way to a speeding animal by stepping aside to a safe distance on the roadside.

  6. On the long route (27 km), 3 official, strictly defined relay transition zones will be established, located at intervals of approximately 6.75 km. Physical exchange of runners in a relay team outside the designated transition zones is strictly prohibited and results in the immediate disqualification of the entire team.

V. CLASSIFICATION, AWARDS, AND VETERINARY VERIFICATION

  • Main Classification – Stolem Cup (Puchar Stolema): The winner is the participant (runner or rider-horse pair) who completes the chosen Long Route (27 km) in the shortest time and crosses the finish line in compliance with the Regulations.

  • Additional Classification – Mini Stolem Cup (Puchar Mini Stolema): The winner is the participant (runner or rider-horse pair) who completes the chosen Short Route (13 km) in the shortest time and crosses the finish line in compliance with the Regulations.

OBLIGATORY INTERMEDIATE VETERINARY CONTROL (FOR THE 27 KM LONG ROUTE):

  1. An absolutely mandatory intermediate veterinary control gate is located at approximately the 13th kilometer of the long route.

  2. The rider-horse pair has a maximum of 15 minutes from the moment of physically reaching the gate zone to present the horse for a veterinary inspection (the so-called "gate entry"). Exceeding this time limit results in immediate disqualification.

  3. A positive result in the veterinary control is a mandatory requirement for the rider-horse pair to be allowed to continue the race on the remaining section of the route.

  4. Criteria for passing the intermediate gate: The horse's heart rate must not exceed 64 beats per minute (bpm) at the moment of gate entry, and there must be a complete absence of any signs of lameness or extreme exhaustion. A negative test result or the veterinarian's decision that the horse is unfit for further exertion means indisputable disqualification and a ban on further movement along the route.

  5. CONTINUOUS TIME RULE: The total time spent by the rider-horse pair in the veterinary control zone (including waiting time for the examination, the examination itself, and time for cooling down the horse) is included in the participant's overall distance time. The Organizer does not deduct the time spent at the veterinary gate from the final result.

VETERINARY CONTROL AT THE FINISH LINE (FOR BOTH ROUTES: 13 KM AND 27 KM):

  1. A necessary condition for validating the final result at the finish line is a positive result in the final veterinary control within a strict time limit of up to 20 minutes from crossing the finish line.

  2. Criteria at the finish line: The horse's heart rate must be a maximum of 64 bpm at the moment of gate entry, and there must be no signs of lameness (examination in motion in a straight line, at a trot). Exceeding the heart rate limit or detecting lameness results in immediate disqualification.

  3. In order for a rider-horse pair to be classified, it is an indispensable condition that they pass a restrictive veterinary inspection within a non-negotiable time limit of up to 20 minutes after crossing the finish line.

  4. The veterinary control (veterinary gate) includes:

    • Examination of the horse in motion (in a straight line, at a trot). Any signs of lameness or exhaustion result in immediate disqualification.

    • Horse's heart rate – maximum 72 bpm at the moment of gate entry. Exceeding this parameter at the 20th minute from completing the run results in disqualification.

VI. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION AND LIMITATION OF ORGANIZER'S LIABILITY

  1. The Event is open to individuals in excellent health who have no medical contraindications for participating in extreme endurance disciplines.

  2. RISK CLAUSE: Before being allowed to start, every Participant (and their legal guardian in the case of minors) must sign a declaration stating that they are fully aware that:

    • Participation in the event involves immense physical exertion and carries an inherent and elevated risk of accident, severe bodily injury, health impairment, as well as death.

    • This risk results, among other things, from the terrain layout, weather conditions, and – above all – from the unpredictable behavior of the horses taking part in the competition.

    • The Participant starts at their own risk and full responsibility.

  3. Individuals who turn 16 years of age at the latest on October 3, 2026, may participate in the Event. Minors (16–18 years old) may start exclusively with the prior written consent of a parent or legal guardian, submitted in person at the Event Office, in which the guardian assumes full civil and legal liability for the minor's participation.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR RIDERS (ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENTS):

  • Riders must present a valid horse passport at the Event Office with up-to-date veterinary examinations and vaccinations (influenza – not older than 12 months).

  • The rider is required to have a valid third-party liability (OC) insurance policy covering horse riding / participation in sports competitions. Lack of a policy results in non-admission to the start.

  • Pursuant to Article 431 of the Polish Civil Code, the Rider bears full, exclusive, and unlimited civil liability for any personal injury and property damage caused by their horse to other participants, spectators, the Organizer, or third parties.

PARTICIPATION OF RELAY TEAMS ON THE LONG DISTANCE (27 KM):

  • Relay teams are allowed to participate in the long-distance race (27 km) (Relay classification).

  • A relay team may consist of a maximum of 4 people (any gender or mixed configuration). Relay teams with fewer members (e.g., 2 or 3 people) are allowed, provided that the total number of competitors does not exceed 4, and each of them completes at least one full section designated by the transition zones.

  • Each competitor may start in only one relay team.

ORGANIZATION AND COURSE OF RELAY TRANSITIONS:

  • The relay competition takes place in a shift system. The handover of the transition (a symbolic relay baton or timing chip) may only take place within the transition zone designated by the Organizer.

  • The runner of the next leg may start running only after the predecessor has physically entered the transition zone and successfully handed over the baton/chip.

  • It is forbidden for more than one runner from a given relay team to move along the race route simultaneously. Violation of this prohibition results in the immediate disqualification of the team.

RELAY SAFETY AND LOGISTICS (CRITICAL FOR THE ORGANIZER):

  • The Organizer does not provide transport for relay competitors to and from the transition zones. Competitors are required to reach the location of their transition and return from it on their own and at their own expense.

  • Competitors waiting for their leg in the designated zone are strictly forbidden from entering the running and horse route before the moment of taking over the transition. The warm-up of waiting competitors may only take place outside the designated and taped route of the Event.

  • Due to the dynamic nature of transitions and the presence of horses on the route, accompanying persons and fans are strictly forbidden from staying in the transition zones. The transition zone is a restricted area intended exclusively for the competitors of a given leg and the Organizer's referee staff.

RELAY TIMING:

  • Relay time is calculated continuously from the moment the first competitor starts (11:00 AM) until the last (fourth) competitor of the given team crosses the finish line.

  • The relay competitors are solely responsible for the correct attachment and carrying of the timing chip through all sections of the route. Losing the chip or baton results in a lack of time measurement and disqualification.

  1. Conditions for starting include correctly filling out the registration form, accepting these regulations, and paying the entry fee. The entry fee constitutes a lump-sum contribution to the organization of the event and is non-refundable under any circumstances (including participant withdrawal, disqualification, or change of personal plans).

  2. The Organizer provides basic medical support and veterinary service during the Event, which, however, does not constitute a guarantee against any injuries.

  3. EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY: To the maximum extent permitted by Polish law (excluding intentional misconduct), the Organizer, co-organizers, and all persons acting on their behalf bear no liability for personal injury (health damage, death) and property damage (theft, equipment damage) suffered by Participants before, during, or after the Event. The Organizer does not provide Personal Accident (NNW) or Third-Party Liability (OC) insurance for Participants – concluding such agreements lies solely with the Participant.

  4. The Organizer's security services have the right to immediately remove from the Event grounds or disqualify any person who fails to follow instructions, disrupts public order, poses a threat to people or animals, or violates the rules of fair play.

VII. PARTICIPANT LIMITS

  • Runners (including relay members): maximum 100 people.

  • Riders on horses: maximum 30 pairs (rider-horse).

VIII. REGISTRATION

  1. Applications are accepted electronically through the dostartu.pl portal.

  2. Participation in the Event is determined by the moment the entry fee is credited to the Organizer's account, not by the mere filling out of the form. The Organizer reserves the right to close registration early once limits are reached.

IX. SCHEDULE AND TIME REGIME

  • 07:00 AM - 10:30 AM – Event Office operation, distribution of starter packs.

  • 09:00 AM - 10:00 AM – Preliminary pre-start veterinary check for all horses (a mandatory condition for admission to the Event).

  • 11:00 AM – Start of runners (mass start for both 13 km and 27 km distances).

  • 11:15 AM – Start of riders on horses (mass start for both 13 km and 27 km distances).

  • The absolute time limit to complete the chosen route is 4 hours for the Long Route and 2 hours for the Short Route, counted from the starter's gun (applies to both distances).

  • The closing of the intermediate veterinary gate at the 13th kilometer takes place after a time calculated by the Head Referee, taking into account animal safety.

X. ENTRY FEES AND BOX RESERVATIONS

  1. The amount of entry fees depends on the date of payment and is specified in detail in the dostartu.pl registration panel.

  2. The fee for a horse stall (box) is 150 PLN (availability from Friday, Oct 2, 3:00 PM to Sunday, Oct 4, 12:00 PM, includes straw and hay). The Rider is financially responsible for any damage caused by the horse to the box or the stud's infrastructure.

XI. SAFETY, NATURE CONSERVATION, AND THE RESERVE

  1. Participants are required to strictly stick to the designated route. Shortening the route or stepping off the paths results in immediate disqualification.

  2. All waste (gels, bottles) must be kept with the participant and discarded exclusively in designated waste zones. Littering the route (in particular, the area adjacent to the nature reserve) carries a penalty of disqualification and a contractual fine of 500 PLN payable to the Organizer (to cover cleaning costs).

  3. In the area adjacent to the Nature Reserve, making noise, using sound amplification devices, scaring animals, damaging vegetation, smoking, and using open fire are strictly prohibited.

  4. BAN ON ACCOMPANYING PERSONS ON THE ROUTE: Only verified Event participants with visible bib numbers and the Organizer's technical staff may remain on the Event route. Accompanying persons, fans, and coaches are strictly forbidden from entering the running and equestrian tracks under penalty of disqualification of the competitor they are associated with.

XII. TIME LIMITS, TIMING, AND DISQUALIFICATION

  1. Participants who do not finish within the 4-hour limit are required to immediately stop running/riding, leave the route, and report this fact to the nearest referee or by phone to the Event Office.

  2. A participant who remains on the route despite the expiration of the time limit does so exclusively at their own full risk and responsibility, losing their status as an Event participant. They cease to be covered by any supervision from the Organizer's services.

  3. Time measurement is carried out by an external company, YO&GO Events, using chips embedded in the bib numbers. The bib number must be mounted on the front of the torso (for runners) or in a visible place on the saddle pad/bridle (for riders). Covering the number results in disqualification.

XIII. EVENT OFFICE AND BAG DROP REGIME

  1. The bag drop (depozyt) for participants is located in the Pensjonat Kupperówka building.

  2. Only clothing and personal items packed in a numbered bag may be left in the bag drop. It is strictly forbidden to leave valuables, electronics, cash, payment cards, and identity documents in the bag drop.

  3. The Organizer is not responsible for the loss or destruction of valuables left in the bag drop contrary to the prohibition mentioned in point 2, nor for items left outside the designated bag drop zone.

XIV. CODE OF CONDUCT FOR THE HORSE (ANIMAL WELFARE)

  1. The welfare of the horse is the highest priority of the Event and stands above any competitive sport or commercial interest.

  2. Any acts of violence against a horse (excessive use of a whip, spurs, jerking the reins, forcing an extremely exhausted animal to move) will result in immediate, lifetime disqualification of the Rider from the Event and reporting the matter to law enforcement authorities based on the Animal Protection Act.

  3. The decisions of the Veterinarian are final, indisputable, and not subject to appeal. The Veterinarian has the right to stop a rider-horse pair on the route or at the finish line and order the withdrawal of the horse from the Event if they consider its health or life to be endangered.

  3. In the case of capturing the image of third parties (fans, spectators) within crowd shots, the Organizer applies Article 81(2)(2) of the Polish Act on Copyright and Related Rights (the image of a person constituting only a detail of a whole).

XVII. COMPLAINTS AND PROTESTS

  1. Any protests and complaints regarding the course of the Event or the results must be submitted exclusively in writing at the Event Office on the day of the event, at the latest within 30 minutes from the publication of unofficial results, after paying a deposit (wadium) of 200 PLN. The Organizer reserves the right to cancel, shorten, change the route of, or postpone the Event in the event of Force Majeure, understood as external events independent of the Organizer, which could not have been foreseen or prevented (in particular: extreme weather conditions, hurricanes, floods, fires, administrative and forestry decisions related to nature protection, epidemiological threats, states of emergency).

  2. In the event of Event cancellation due to Force Majeure, Participants are not entitled to a refund of the entry fee or a refund of any other costs incurred in connection with the Event (e.g., travel, accommodation costs). In such a case, the entry fee will be allocated to cover the organizational costs that the Organizer has already incurred.

XIX. FINAL PROVISIONS

  1. The binding and final interpretation of these Regulations belongs exclusively to the Organizer.

  2. In matters not regulated by the Regulations, the relevant provisions of the Polish Civil Code and the Sports Act shall apply.

  3. Ignorance of the Regulations does not exempt the Participant from complying with them. Signing the registration form or paying the entry fee is equivalent to full acceptance of all provisions of this document.
